the factory phnom penh is cambodia’s first large-scale reuse of an industrial site. f1, one of the existing production halls with a size of roughly one hectare, marks the entrance to the site. an entire town was established under its wooden sheds, hosting shared workspaces, a library, a café with roastery, exhibitions, workshops, a cinema, an event hall and more.

 
 

Reception

in collaboration with artist laura françois from canada, discarded knitwear of the former factory was crafted into an envelope for three free-shaped structures, serving as meeting island, back office and storage. the composed bodies evolve around a central platform with reception desk and extensive waiting lounge..

 

fan stella

to avoid climatization, steely, artistic fan stelas were designed to be distributed throughout the open space. to create desired airflow, an integrated electric ventilator pulls cooler air hoovering over the concrete floor and directs it via air ducts arranged on various levels to the users on all sides in its vicinity.
